LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - SirusXM Radio reached a multi-year deal with Viacom-owned Comedy Central to exclusively broadcast Comedy Central Radio, the companies announced on Tuesday morning.
The new 24/7 audio channel will offer stand-up comedy and recordings from Comedy Central's vast library of comic performances, including roasts, behind-the-scenes recordings from channel events and new shows.
The channel will launch in spring this year on the satellite radio broadcaster. No specific date has been announced. It remains unclear if any of Comedy Central's marquee names, such as its satirical news hosts Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, will participate.
"Comedy Central is the definitive name and leader in the world of comedy and we are excited to work with them to create Comedy Central Radio for our listeners," Scott Greenstein, president and chief content officer at SiriusXM, said in a statement. "By adding Comedy Central Radio to a comedy lineup that includes Blue Collar Radio and Jamie Foxx's The Foxxhole, we are delivering unmatched and exclusive comedy programming to millions of listeners nationwide."
Besides Blue Collar Comedy and Foxxhole, Comedy Central Radio joins SiriusXM's growing stable of other comedy channels, including George Carlin's Corner, Upright Citizens Brigade Radio, and Raw Dog Comedy, among others.
